Word of the Week – 2/8/22 (Gen 2)

"... the breath of life"

Genesis 2:7

In the first couple of chapters of Genesis, God creates the universe and everything in it. The climax of this creation occurs when He makes man. God says, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). Though we are infinitesimally small relative to the size of the universe and the size of God, we are obviously important to God. People often mistake size for importance when it comes to human life, but this can be easily illustrated as a fallacy. Ask any married woman if their wedding ring or Mount Everest is more important to them.

One of the things that clearly shows that God created us and highly values us is the breath of life. Genesis 2:7 says, “Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” People have spent thousands of years trying to answer the question of how life came to be. Right here in Genesis, it tells us exactly what happened. It’s a simple answer, and it makes sense. The only way for life to start is for God to breathe life into something.

Never in the history of humankind has a person observed an inanimate object becoming animate. Yet Evolution tells us that if you give the right object enough time and the right circumstances, perhaps life could somehow be sparked into it. That isn’t science. It’s never been observed, and there’s not even a way to make it happen in a lab (they have tried a lot!). Richard Dawkins, famous atheist and author of The God Delusion, admitted that the chance of life coming from non life was so small that you could call it zero. Then, he went on to theorize that perhaps an alien life form put some original life forms on the earth. At which point, one must wonder where the alien life forms came from. Why make it so complicated? Why not admit that life is so complex and unexplainable that we must be the creation of a Great artist? The reason most evolutionists will never admit such a thing is because they don’t want there to be a God, so they will concoct whatever theories they must and perform as many mental gymnastics as it takes to convince themselves that, somehow, we came from a primordial soup.

  1. Pride blinds people. Acknowledging there’s One true God and that He is the Creator of all requires humility…too many like the blinders and the false sense of power.
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. -Psalm 10:4
