Our Saturday Produce Stand

Every Saturday this spring, summer, and fall we will be having a produce stand out in front of our future farm store. Once the store opens, the produce stand can move inside the building. For now though, we’ll enjoy the fresh air!

What’s going to be on this stand? That’s a great question. I am so glad that I thought to type it out. I should be more humble. I should actually answer the question, too. What is on the stand will depend on what is in the Weekly Produce Program (WPP). For the WPP, we use a variety of produce from our own gardens, produce from local farms, and some out of state produce (especially in the early months of the program when not much is growing here). Each week, we send an email with a list of what is available, and the people that have signed up to receive the email tell us what they want (If you are interested in receiving that email, you can still sign up) We then harvest and order produce accordingly. Here is where the stand comes in. All of the extra produce goes on the stand. This includes produce from our gardens that is ripe but not sold and what is left over from ordering in bulk. As far as what exactly the produce will be, think about everything you would need for a salad, whatever vegetables you can grow in a garden, and all the best fruits of the land. Besides the produce, we will have honey, maple syrup, maple cream, fruit jams and eggs on the stand.

The WPP doesn’t begin until the first full week of May, so for the next couple of weeks, our stand will not have any produce on it. However, we will still have it out with our other farm products available.

Remember also that Smokey Legend Barbecue is here and open for takeout on Saturdays from 11 AM to 7 PM. That is actually what prompted us to make sure we set up a stand every Saturday. The increased traffic on the farm seemed like a good reason to put our products out. Now people can get their fresh vegetables and get some seriously delicious barbecue for lunch or dinner, as well as see some farm animals. The goat kids won’t be young forever, but we will have baby rabbits and chicks all summer.

We hope to finish the front deck of the store soon, which will have a roof above it. Then we can move our stand onto it so that poor weather will not be detrimental to our cause. So if you are looking for us, we will start out down into the parking lot a little bit, but soon you will find us on the front deck.

  1. Glad to get all the progress news. Excited about the stand, the barbecue!! The fresh produce…. It was a difficult winter, which unfortunately is still with us. Following last surgery in November I am still having serious trouble. Les has been in hospital more than not. I rarely get to see him and then for moments at a time. I will try to retrieve my produce from the stand. It will be good for me to try. Have been trying to replace kitchen floor for months. Hoping the weather and everything else will allow it to happen soon.

  2. It sounds like you are all making great plans and great progress. I look forward to getting some of that wonderful produce.

Thanks for the update and I hope the weather cooperates.

  3. I visited your blog and read about Grandpa Harold….Our hearts are saddened by your loss. We met Casey and Rachel at Jeanne Narita’s church a few months ago and have enjoyed many of your farm fresh items. May your family’s hearts be blessed with treasured memories and peaceful comforts as you grieve Grandpa Harold’s passing to a beautiful eternal life in Heaven with Jesus. All our Love, Maria and Andy Supa
